The automatic histologist

The interpretation of histological images is traditionally an expert activity, enhanced by image processing technology. This project aims to go further than this and create an "expert system" image analyser to locate patterns in histological images against specific disease targets. The focus of the work is to extract disease-specific features from histological images, which can then be correlated with other measures (such as mechanical properties) for diagnostic purposes.
