Development of a Discharge Sensing Technique for Electrical Assets Ageing Prediction

Electrical power assets such as generators, transmission lines, transformers and other equipment are designed to function for 10s of years. Maintenance is crucial to ensure continued operation and this maintenance is preferred before any failure occurs. Degradation of components can be identified from many features before failure. This project investigates different types of discharge (such are partial discharge, surface discharge) and classifies them, investigates standard techniques to monitor discharges and develops a novel no-contact technique.
