Renewable resource assessment using advanced statistical methods

Wind, wave or solar resource assessment requires either a long (and costly) campaign of data collection at a proposed development site, or the use of either physical or statistical modelling based on existing observations.
This project will explore a number of analysis approaches based on factor or component analysis methods.  The aim is to identify suitable methods which can either be used for short-term forecasting for operational installations or for resource assessment in the wind farm planning process. Of particular interest is the exploitation of hybrid developments where two or more different resources may balance each other.
Programming/scripting experience, preferably in Matlab or R, is needed for this project.
