Rock Avalanche Modelling with Quadrature-Based Moment Method

Large rock avalanches occur a serious hazard to lifelines, infrastructure, and lives. Because a rock avalanche can impact upon centres of habitation, quantifying runout of an avalanche has been studied by geologists, geophysicists and researchers. In this project, we model the dynamic fragmentation of rock during avalanche motion with a quadrature-based moment method. Numerical predictions will be compared with field-scale events.
