EarthArrest - Lightning Protection of HV Overhead Lines with Non-Ideal Footing Resistance (2016-17) (2016-17)

This project is working with SSE transmission. They increasingly need to place HV transmission lines and pylons in areas where there is a high footing resistance. This project investigates issues associated with this, lightning protection and surge arresters.

Objectives
1. Review of currently available surge arresters.
2. Review issues involved in modelling strategic positioning of arresters.
3. Build/develop a simple model to strategically position arresters (how and when).
4. Limited verification of model/simulation (lab based).
