AI research at Deepmind: adventures along the winding path towards artificial general intelligence

Deepmind's goal is to understand and recreate intelligence itself, using the knowledge gained in this endeavour to tackle key questions in the sciences and beyond. In my talk I will give an overview of how we are approaching this challenge, and about my transition from quantum optics to AI. Starting from a brief introduction to our key tools: deep neural networks & reinforcement learning, I will discuss my particular research focus on learning rich internal models of the world and how we can use these to improve the performance of our artificial agents.
