Location:

Speaker:
Dr Sarah Croke
Affiliation:
University of Glasgow
Synopsis:

Dr Sarah Croke will be the Keynote Speaker at the Ada Lovelace Day, an International celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). To celebrate this day, the EPS Athena SWAN team is organising an event that will highlight the achievements of women in STEM research and inspire the next-generation of female researchers at Heriot-Watt.

Born in 1815, Ada Lovelace was a mathematician and writer who is widely regarded as the world’s first computer programmer. At the age of 18, she worked with fellow mathematician Charles Baggage on his mechanical computer, and published the first algorithm intended to be carried out such a machine.

Short presentations on EPS Athena SWAN summer projects will be given by:

Sabrina Henry - IPAQS
Lydia Lei - ICS
Elisa Caires Silva - IMPEE
Christy Ritchie - ISSS
Amelia Webb - IB3

This will be followed by a reception with PhD Posters, with tea/coffee, fresh fruit and cake.
