Physics careers outside academia

Wed, 15/03/2023 - 15:00 to 17:00
Affiliation:
Hosted by IPAQS and the HWU Physics Society
Synopsis:

You are invited to attend a special event jointly hosted by IPAQS and the HWU Physics Society, celebrating Physics Careers Outside Academia. We will be joined by several physics graduates and postgraduates who will tell us a little about their career path, and how the skills developed during their degree helped them along the way (or not, as the case may be!). This event will take place on March 15th from 3-5pm in James Watt 2, and will be followed by a Q&A / discussion session, ending with refreshments. There is a separate event running in JW1 at the same time, so please enter JW2 through the revolving doors accessible from outside main reception, rather than the internal door, as partition wall will be in place in the crush area.

Our speakers are:
Dr Jonathan Morton, Physics teacher at Earlston High School in the Scottish Borders
Dr Carole Helfter, Experimental physicist at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology
Iain Adamson, IBM process manager at Leonardo
Catalina Dobas, Service Engineer at Photonics Solutions
Dr Megan Agnew, Senior Sensor Characterisation Engineer at STMicroelectronics
