With world record temperatures in 2023, this talk will discuss the current state of understanding of global climate change as well as the process of international climate science assessments and negotiations. In particular, I will discuss the role of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and its influence on climate policy. I will also discuss the role of the UK Climate Change Committee. For both these organisations, I will illustrate my own experiences of working within them and how best to use evidence to affect international policy choices.
