Biography: 

Carolina Tacchella
Technology Specialist, Medical Device Manufacturing Centre

Dr Carolina Tacchella is a technology specialist at the Medical Device Manufacturing Centre (MDMC) based at Heriot-Watt University. She earned her PhD in Biomedical Engineering, focusing on biomechanical changes in soft tissues due to compartment syndrome and developing new quantitative monitoring techniques. After completing her PhD, she firstly worked as a Research Associate, working on reusable electrochemical medical platforms for rapid UTI diagnostics. As a Technology Specialist in medical device research and development at the MDMC, Carolina offers technical expertise and assists SMEs in advancing their products, contributing to various projects, including diagnostic platforms, interdental aids, and acoustic sensors.

Michelle Cooper
Image Guided Therapy Research Facility (IGTRF) Operations Support Manager, University of Dundee

Bringing 25 years of experience in undergraduate teaching and surgical skills training within the School of Medicine, Dr Michelle Cooper joined the IGTRF team as the manager in 2022. She collaborates with clients from initial discussions to site visits, facilitating their studies. Working closely with her team, she ensures the delivery of tailored project pathways that enable pre-clinical medical device testing and training within the facility.
