We are excited to announce the next lecture in the series "Navigating Beyond the Thesis: Exploring Career Horizons for Postgraduate Students." This series aims to provide PhD students with invaluable insights into the diverse career paths available after completing their degrees.

In each session, we will host external speakers who have successfully transitioned into various sectors, including Industry, Academia, Clinical fields, Government Agencies, Consulting, Entrepreneurship, Education and Training, Non-profits, and NGOs. Our goal is to inspire and equip you with a broader understanding of your career options, helping you make informed decisions about your future.

We are thrilled to announce that the sixth lecture will be given by Dr Alison McLeod – Director - Photonics Scotland, Technology Scotland. In her talk, "Photonics in Scotland: a great career opportunity," Dr. McLeod will share her career journey in Photonics and offer insights into opportunities in this field.

Biography: 

Alison has more than 20 years of experience working in academic, industrial and consultancy roles. After achieving her PhD in Photonics she worked as a Research Associate before leaving academia and joining industry in the role of technical sales/account manager in the health physics and photonics sectors. Alison then moved to a role dedicated to project management and proposal writing for EU funded projects, gaining extensive experience across a wide variety of research topics. In her current role Alison is responsible for the Photonics Scotland network at Technology Scotland, a community for all photonics and photonics-enabled organisations in Scotland: connecting members with the support they need, fostering cross-collaboration, representing the interests and capabilities of the sector to stakeholders as well as planning and running specific events and activities for the Photonics Scotland network.
