The presentation focuses on new principles and inventions on wave and tidal energy conversion in China, along with future applications. It introduces the progress and journey of the innovations from initial concept to engineering application.
Shi Hongda, Professor in Ocean University of China (OUC), Director of Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory on Ocean Engineering (KLOE). Having 15 years’ experience on marine renewable energy, especially wave energy, he has published over 150 high level journal papers, undertaken over 10 national level projects including NSFC, Key R&D, etc. He has more than 50 invention patents on wave energy convertor (WEC), and most of the devices invented have been tested in the real sea condition. He established the first Marine Renewable Energy discipline in China, and is establishing a test site in Zhaitang island, which will be the demonstration marine renewable energy centre in China.
