Synopsis:

Centre for Precision Engineering (CPE) at Harbin Institute of Technology is an internationally renowned research institute in ultra precision manufacturing. It concentrates on the development of cutting edge machining facility and process development for ultra precision products, such as space spectrometers, IR optics. It also offers a best-spoken design, manufacture and test services to both academic and commercial partners. For years, CPE has continued to undertake large-scale and highly sophisticated national projects. The famous 'Shenzhou Series Spaceship Project' received massive assistance from CPE in the field of 3-axel simulation experimental platform and fault diagnosis.
This talk will outline the research carried out at CPE in the aspects of fundamental study on ultra precision and micro/nano machining theory and ultra precision machine tool development. It will also highlight some of the interesting projects that CPE is currently involved with.

Biography:

Prof. Liang holds a Chair in ultra precision machining at Harbin Institute of Technology. He has been awarded Changjiang Scholar and NSFC Distinguished Scholar. He is the founding member of Asian Society of Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology. His expertise lies in ultra precision machining and micro/nano technologies. Currently he leads several national projects including a large (£10m) laser fusion project.
Dr. Yanzhou Sun is an Associate Professor at Harbin Institute of Technology. He obtained his PhD in 2005 at Harbin Institute of Technology. He has outstanding expertise in precision machine tool design and micromachining with evidence of more than 50 peer-reviewed papers published in highly ranked precision engineering journals.
