Challenges and opportunities of multisensory interactive environments

Tue, 12/05/2015 - 11:00 to 12:00

Location:

Speaker:
Dr. Samir Garbaya
Affiliation:
Paris Tech
Synopsis:

In his talk, Dr. Garbaya will present the research he developed in the area of multisensory interaction in virtual environment with a focus on haptics and spatialized sound. In the domain of virtual assembly, modeling physically based behavior of mechanical parts and subassemblies to maintain the stability of the manipulated parts will be presented. The talk will also present an innovative technique based on auditory cues developed with spatialized sound to improve the precision of the triangulation phase of virtual surgery. The current challenges facing the development of accessible interactive environments will be also discussed.

Biography:

Dr. S. Garbaya is Associate Professor at the ENSAM - ParisTech Engineering School. His research interests include physically-based modeling, multisensory interaction with a particular focus on haptics and spatialized audio feedback, and assembly planning in virtual environment with the gamification concept. Samir is a founder member of the French Virtual Reality Society (AFRV), he served as expert for many international committees and institutions for the evaluation of research projects and for the definition of the future research direction in the domain of emerging technologies.
