Designing an underwater optical communication system

20 minute online talk, as part of the IDT/CDT webinar series.
In this talk, I will be giving an overview of the key challenges associated with underwater optical communication, a system which is developing intensively and has already been successfully applied to various fields. Significant work has been done in modelling but considerably more research is needed to improve the reliability and efficiency of this communication system. I will discuss the optimal wavelength of transmission for varying water conditions, the different communication link models and the first results that I have obtained.
