We live in a world where water, land, natural resources are all challenged. Regulations are developed constantly. Global trading diversifies the competition. Political unrest bring uncertainty and risk. Sustainable thinking and the reduction for consumerism in the west is paralleled with rise in consumerism in the east. Resistance to antibiotics and pesticides challenge our current healthcare and food systems. What can we do about this as chemical engineers?
Examples will be given that the tool kit that chemical engineers utilize along with working with other disciplines can solve these diverse and very important problems.
– What seems like simple multi-disciplinary working teams in chemical plants solving process safety, reliability and profitability problems by looking at the issues from a holistic perspective.
– Bringing academic disciplines together to drive understanding towards solving critical issues in facing drought tolerance, resistance and time release solutions.
– Providing examples of issues that are not resolved and are ripe for chemical engineers can make significant progress.
-Managing risk by reviewing strategies for manufacturing and supply chain management.
