Talk 1: Practice of RF Sensing with Communication Devices
Speaker: Dr. Wenda Li, Heriot-Watt University
Abstract:
By integrating communication and sensing capabilities into a single platform, these systems enable simultaneous data exchange and environment monitoring. Such technology allows more efficient spectrum utilization and can be adapted to changing conditions more effectively. This is particularly advantageous in dynamic and unpredictable environments. This talk will explore the innovative ways in which devices like software defined radio (SDR) and WiFi network interference card (NIC), are being harnessed for various sensing function, including Doppler-based human sensing, passive indoor localization and angle finding by phased-array radar. They will be demonstrated with real-world experimental results, together challenges will also be discussed.
Talk 2: RF Front-End Design for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Communications
Speaker: Dr. Min Li, Heriot-Watt University
Abstract:
MIMO technology stands as a pivotal catalyst in the pursuit of high data rates within the domain of 5G and the upcoming 6G networks. Yet, the quest for achieving a harmonious amalgamation of low power consumption, cost-efficiency, and elevated integration in MIMO arrays and systems presents itself as an enduring and multifaceted challenge.
This presentation will scrutinize the intricacies involved in the realization of low-power, cost-efficient, and highly integrated MIMO RF front ends. Our examination will be structured around three perspectives: array decoupling, array miniaturization and integration, and enhancing transceiver front-end design.
