Professor Helen Bridle will talk about her work delivered through an EPSRC Engagement Champions Award and a Royal Society of Edinburgh Personal Research Fellowship exploring early years engineering. This research and engagement has explored educator's and children's views of engineers and engineering and investigated routes to broaden perceptions via role model linked play-based activities and the role of outdoor nurseries as gender neutral spaces to engage in engineering play. This seminar will give an overview of the motivation for this work and how Helen has grown her public engagement work into a new area of research focus as well as presenting the latest results.
