Nuclear power generation is rarely out of the news. In this lecture Ian Cathro will describe the current status of nuclear power in the UK and, in particular, will review the impact that the events at Fukishima have had on the industry and the steps that the industry is taking to improve its resilience to extreme events. He will also present the prospects for new nuclear build in the UK.
Ian Cathro is the Special Projects Manager for EDF Energy at Torness Power Station with particular responsibility for the station’s response to the events at Fukishima. He has 40 years’ experience in the electricity industry with 25 years based at power stations (Torness, Hinkley Point B and the Prototype Fast Reactor at Dounreay) and the remainder in research and central engineering posts.
