In January 2016, the K-Axis Survey voyage left Hobart in Tasmania to survey the marine ecosystem of the Kerguelen Plateau off eastern Antarctica. One of the instruments on board was a trial deployment of an Optical Coherence Tomography system which was to be used to provide structural imaging of the zooplankton species obtained. In this talk, I will describe some of the results we obtained, the logistics of carrying out experiments in the Antarctic and also what you do when your ship runs aground and you have to be evacuated from the Antarctic continent.
