AI-powered semantic communications is one of the enablers for the next 6G of telecommunications. Contrary to Shannon’s communication model that transmit bits of data, in semantic communications, meanings or semantics are transmitted. This emerging paradigm enhances transmission efficiency in terms of factors such as bandwidth, power consumption, and telecommunications infrastructure. In this talk, we present our recent research at Heriot-Watt University (HWU) on a new model, termed Differential Semantic Communications (DSC), mimicking the intelligence behind human-to-human interactions.
