"What can Mass Spectrometry do for your research?"

Wed, 17/01/2018 - 14:30 to 15:30

Location:

Speaker:
Natalie Homer and Andrew Finch
Affiliation:
Edinburgh University
Synopsis:

• 'Quantitation of steroids, amino acids and other small molecules by mass spectrometry in clinical research' Dr Natalie Homer
• 'IGMM mass spectrometry: Proteins, metabolites and lipids' Dr Andy Finch

Mass Spectrometry has been identified by the RCUK as a technology for the future. Combined with chromatography, mass spectrometry allows cutting edge quantitative and qualitative analysis of the proteome and metabolome. This seminar will give an overview of just some of the types of experiments that can be conducted using mass spectrometry and how it can be used to answer research questions. Some of the analytical techniques available to us will be described. We offer both a service and a collaborative approach to access our mass spectrometry facilities in the University of Edinburgh and hope that you will find this seminar of value.
