Next Generation Microscopy Imaging

Wed, 24/01/2018 - 14:30 to 15:30

Location:

Speaker:
Paul Dalgarno
Synopsis:

I will discuss how our group is developing novel tools and techniques that allow biologists to access previously hidden detail of our cellular function. Specifically, I will discuss two main avenues of research. First, our work into ultra-fast single photon imaging arrays for high sensitivity, multiplexed, single photon imaging for a variety of life science applications. This ranges from single molecule detection, through to optical trapping, motility and 3D cell growth. I will also discuss 3D imaging and the ongoing challenge to translate high end super resolution microscopy into full three and four dimensional applications. In both cases I will discuss the technology, optics and analytical tools needed to implement each. The aim is for this interdisciplinary talk to be highly accessible to all, and hopefully present the technologies to incite discussion and new application ideas.
