Construction of an ultrasonic endoscopic capsule for the diagnostics of gastro-intestinal pathologies.

Wed, 21/03/2018 - 14:30 to 15:30

Location:

Speaker:
Marc Desmulliez
Synopsis:

Exploration of the gut without the use of an endoscope still represents a formidable challenge of engineering. Economic and health benefits are however immense as well as the
possibility to study in vivo the biology of tissues forming the gut walls. This talk will present the current research achieved under the EPSRC-funded programme grant Sonopill.
Motivation for the work will be presented as well as the engineering progress achieved in the construction of this complex multimodal endoscopic capsule.
The capsule has been used as a platform to trial different modalities in vitro and using porcine models. Preliminary results regarding these trials will also be presented.
