Over the last 4 years my postdoctoral research has focused on the development of CMOS SPAD detectors for biological microscopy applications and on the development of novel labelling strategies for detecting proteins involved in exocytosis. In the first part of my talk, I will explore the use of SPAD detectors for fluorescence microscopy applications and demonstrate their suitability for super-resolution microscopy and for imaging dynamic processes for tracking and gated lifetime imaging. In the second part of my talk I will discuss novel labelling strategies, focussing on the re-development of enzymes as an alternative to antibodies for labelling endogenous proteins in fluorescence microscopy.
