Fermentation scale-up research in FlexBio

The scale-up of microbial and mammalian cell fermentations is key to upgrade a lab process into a full manufacturing process. Typical fermentation conditions such as agitation and aeration are not directly scalable. Instead, other parameters such as oxygen transfer rate (KLa), impeller tip speed and power input per unit volume are normally used in scale-up studies. This seminar will introduce all these parameters and explain how they are used in a research facility like FlexBio to support Scotland’s biotech industry.
