Super resolution ultrasound imaging has been proposed as another tool for assessment of prostate cancer. Contrast enhanced ultrasound imaging of the prostate can be used to produce maps of vascular networks within the prostate. A clinical trial applying super resolution ultrasound imaging to patients with previously diagnosed prostate cancer has been ongoing at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh. To date, data from 17 patients has been collected. Each patient is also scheduled to under-go radical prostatectomy (removal of the prostate) which allows comparison of super resolution vascular maps with the gold standard of post-operative pathology.
This seminar will summarise work undertaken as part of the clinical trial so far.
