One of the many challenges currently presented by the implementation of industrial-scale microalgae production is the high cost of operation. The continuous need to procure suitable nutritional feedstocks and fresh water to maintain biomass production accounts for roughly one fifth of total cultivation costs. The use of alternative growth mediums, such as pot-ale, can reduce this cost and improve the economic viability of large-scale microalgae production.
This seminar will discuss the viability of pot-ale as a suitable growth medium for green microalgae species, by assessing the impact of pot-ale on biomass productivity and potential contamination.
