Nanofibers and Nanoparticles: Societal Challenges

Fri, 12/09/2014 - 14:00

Location:

Speaker:
Professor Ramakrishna Seeram
Affiliation:
Center for Nanofibers & Nanotechnology, National University of Singapore
Synopsis:

The past two decades saw significant research investments in nanotechnology worldwide. Yet the nanotechnology field fared below the expectations. This is attributed partly to the lack of scalable manufacturing technologies for nanomaterials and products. In recent years, electrospinning and electrospraying techniques have emerged as potential contenders for producing functional polymer nanofibers and nanoparticles respectively. This lecture illustrates advances made in diverse electrospun nanomaterials and their role in addressing societal challenges such as clean water, energy, & environment, improved healthcare, food nutrition & safety, and sustainable designs. The lecture will also highlight the key areas requiring further work in realizing the full potential.
