Fluorescence as a research and diagnostic tool

Steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy have become an invaluable tool for biology. Basic aspects of a fluorescence probe method and applications of tryptophan fluorescence to study protein structure and function are discussed on examples of antigen presentation by class I Major Histocompatibility Complex and non-invasive cataract diagnostics.
