Synopsis:

The presentation focuses on practical aspects of optimisation and scale-up in protein purification, highlighting how thoughtful process design at the lab scale can be translated into reliable performance at larger scales. It begins with a brief introduction to my background, the organisation, and our capabilities.
An overview of downstream bioprocessing and key chromatography principles is then provided, followed by a closer look at two widely used techniques, ion exchange and hydrophobic interaction chromatography and how these can be effectively combined to achieve efficient purification.
The central part of the presentation features a lab-scale case study demonstrating the development of a two-step purification process for isolating a target protein and its successful tenfold scale-up.
The session concludes with a set of practical insights and best practices aimed at supporting scientists and engineers in developing robust, scalable chromatography processes suitable for real-world applications.
