Synopsis:

Ca2+ is an important signalling molecule in cells. Influx through voltage-gated calcium channels is required for neurotransmitter release in neurons, contraction of the heart and hormone release. Defects in channel function can cause muscular, cardiac and neurological disorders. Understanding how these channels are regulated should lead to improved treatments of such hereditary diseases in humans.
This talk will present current work towards investigating possible regulatory mechanisms that control the number and types of voltage-gated calcium channels in neuronal cells.
