Optical resolution describes the ability of an imaging system to resolve detail in the object that is being imaged. In this talk I will start by explaining optical resolution due to light diffraction and its effect on optical microscopy, and then discuss the techniques that can achieve resolution below the diffraction limit, i.e., super-resolution optical microscopy. I will try to explain the physics behind these techniques to a general audience who may not have physical science background.
