Synopsis:
Del Favero’s presentation will provide an overview of the commercial and research activities of Multiplicom. Furthermore, insight in the transition from academia to industry will be discussed based on his experience as scientific founder of Multiplicom.
Biography:
Prof. Dr. Ir. Jurgen Del-Favero obtained a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences from the Free University of Brussels (Belgium) in 1995. He joined the VIB Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Antwerp where he is full professor since 2008. From within his academic position he is heading the Applied Molecular Genomics (AMG) group that focuses on the development and implementation of methods and technologies to enhance genetic and genomic research with a specific focus on non-coding genes.
His group recently developed a proprietary algorithm for designing multiplex PCR reactions that is the core technology of the recently founded company Multiplicom of which Jurgen is the scientific founder. In April 2011 he was appointed as Chief Technology Officer at Multiplicom.
